Cloudforge

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you set sail. For the rest there is the Captain's Manual inside the game, and the Sky Tavern on Discord.

What is Cloudforge?

Cloudforge is a multiplayer steampunk strategy and management browser game. You build an archipelago of flying islands, grow mines and shipyards, arm fleets of sky galleons and play together with your guild: shared expeditions, battles between captains and, every Tuesday night, the Pinnacle War. It plays in the browser and on your phone.

Is it free? Is it pay-to-win?

It is free. The only things you can buy are liveries, the look of your ships and your captain, and they give no advantage in the game. Resources, fleets, rings and equipment are earned only by playing.

What games is it like?

It takes the formula of the great management browser games such as OGame, Travian and Ikariam: resources, buildings, research, fleets and alliances, brought among steampunk flying islands. What sets it apart is PvP that never wipes you out, seasons with a beginning and an end, and a guild war fought live every week.

Does my empire grow while I'm offline?

Yes. Mines and power plants keep producing while you are away, up to the capacity of your stores, and buildings, research and fleets in flight keep running on their timers. When you come back the work is done.

Do I need to download anything?

No. You play in the browser, on computer and phone. If you like, you can install it as a web app: it opens full screen, without the browser bar, and sends you notifications.

Do I need to sign up?

No, you start as a guest. When you want to keep your progress you save it with your email, where you receive a code, or with your Google account.

How does a season work?

Everyone starts from zero. On day twelve the Wyvern appears, a beast the whole server brings down together. Then each guild can start the Great Research, which opens the Rift to the Red World, where beasts are hunted for the materials of the final work. From day seventy the guilds start the Final Construction and defend it from assaults: the first to complete it wins the season.

Is my progress kept forever?

An empire lasts one season. When the first guild completes the Final Construction the season closes, and 72 hours later the world resets: everyone starts again on equal terms. Liveries, career medals and titles stay, and the winners' names stay in the Season Roll of Honour.

What is the Pinnacle War?

It is the guild battle of the week, every Tuesday from 22:00 to 23:00 Italian time. Guilds fight over four fronts and score points while they hold them. In the days before, fleets are sent to the front and a War General is elected, who picks the doctrine and gives orders live during the battle. Every Tuesday's points add up to a championship that lasts the whole season. On Thursdays there is also the Pinnacle Game, the same battle for single captains.

What is PvP like? Can I lose everything?

No. Brackets keep much stronger captains away from much smaller ones, and whoever loses a fight keeps at least 55% of their ships' power, except in overwhelming defeats. The Warehouse shelters part of your resources, half of the destroyed defences are back in service within half an hour, and after a heavy defeat the island gets 8 hours of Truce in which nobody can attack it.

How do guilds work?

A guild has up to 16 captains: a General, the Officers and the members. Together they run shared expeditions, which yield more than going alone; the treasury, filled by donations, buys skills that count for everyone; chat, polls and War Plans keep everyone organised, and members send each other garrison ships and resources. Everyone has a role: someone commands in battle, someone supplies the others, someone hunts and someone spies on the neighbours. A season is won by a guild, not by a single player: without a guild you cannot cross the Rift or reach the Final Construction.

What languages is it in?

The game is translated into Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Chinese. The website and the Captain's Manual are in Italian and English.

Who makes Cloudforge?

Cloudforge is developed by a single person, independently, and grows with the players' feedback: reports from the game and from the Discord server are read every day. AI tools were used in the development of Cloudforge to code and create artworks.
